Group products as variants
1
Select the products
Check the products that should become variants, or use filters and select all matching results. Leave the parent out of the selection.
2
Open Bulk Edit and choose Group as Variants
Click Bulk Edit, then search for “Group as Variants”.
3
Pick the parent product
Choose the product that all the selected products should hang under.
4
Apply
Click Apply. The selected products become variants of the parent.
You can attach up to 500 products in one run. If your selection is larger, split it into batches and run the action more than once.
The parent must be configurable
Only a configurable product can have variants. If the parent you pick is a simple product, WISEPIM converts it to a configurable product as part of the action, so you do not have to change the type first. Some products can never be a parent, and WISEPIM rejects those instead of guessing:
If a product in your selection cannot be attached, it is reported back to you and left unchanged. The rest of the selection still goes through.
When to use it
- After a flat import. A supplier file with one row per size becomes one configurable product per style.
- Cleaning up duplicates. Products that look like the same item varying by one attribute are usually variants, not separate products.
- Preparing for a marketplace. Channels expect variants under a parent. Grouping them first avoids rejected listings.
You can also set a parent one product at a time from the Relationships tab in the product editor, or from quick edit. This bulk action is the fast route when you have many products to attach at once.
