Overview

Product templates let you pre-fill fields whenever a new product is created in your project. This saves time, enforces consistency, and reduces manual data entry for your team.
Template defaults only apply to newly created products. Existing products are not affected when you change template settings.

Product Defaults

Set the baseline values that every new product starts with.

Status and Type

  • Default status — Choose whether new products start as Draft (hidden from channels), Active (published), or Archived (hidden but preserved).
  • Default product type — Select from Simple (standalone), Configurable (with variants like size or color), Bundle (grouped products), or Virtual (non-physical, such as a service).

Visibility

Toggle whether new products are visible on connected channels by default. When disabled, new products remain hidden until you explicitly publish them.

Brand and Supplier

Pre-fill default brand and supplier names. These values appear on every new product and can be overridden individually.

Family and Category

If your account has product families and categories configured, you can assign a default for each. New products will automatically be placed in the selected family and category.

Default Pricing

Set default price and cost values. Leave these blank if you prefer to enter pricing manually for each product.
Setting a default brand and category is especially useful if your project focuses on a single product line. It eliminates repetitive data entry.

SKU Pattern

Define a pattern for auto-generating SKUs when creating new products.

Available Variables

VariableDescription
{brand}Replaced with the product’s brand name.
{category}Replaced with the product’s category.
{###}Replaced with a random number.
Example: A pattern of {brand}-{category}-{###} with brand “EcoWear” produces SKUs like EcoWear-TSHIRTS-4821. A live preview appears below the input so you can see what generated SKUs will look like.
Leave the SKU pattern blank if you prefer to assign SKUs manually.

Inventory Defaults

Configure how stock management works for new products.
  • Manage stock — Toggle automatic inventory tracking on or off.
  • Default stock status — Choose from In Stock, Out of Stock, or On Backorder.
  • Low stock threshold — Set the quantity at which you receive a low-stock alert.

Shipping Defaults

Define default shipping and measurement settings.
  • Requires shipping — Toggle whether new products need physical shipping by default. Disable for digital products or services.
  • Weight unit — Choose between grams, kilograms, ounces, or pounds.
  • Dimension unit — Choose between centimeters, meters, inches, or feet.
  • Country of origin — Set the default manufacturing or origin country.

SEO Templates

Create patterns that auto-generate meta title and meta description fields for new products. These patterns support dynamic variables.

Variable Syntax

Use {name}, {brand}, {sku}, or {category} as placeholders. If content logic variables are configured, you can also use the {{product.field}} syntax with autocomplete suggestions.
