What Are Channel Rules?

Different sales channels have different data requirements. Google Shopping needs a valid GTIN. Amazon requires bullet points and specific category attributes. Your own Shopify store might need high-quality images above a certain count. Channel Rules let you organize and view your quality rules by export destination, so you can ensure compliance for each platform independently.
Channel Rules are not a separate rule type — they are a filtered view of your existing quality rules, grouped by the channel they apply to. When you create a rule with a channel-specific scope, it automatically appears under that channel on this page.

The Channel Rules Page

The Channel Rules page organizes your rules by platform. Each channel card shows:
  • Channel name and icon — The platform this rule set covers (e.g., Shopify, Amazon, Google Shopping)
  • Rules count — How many quality rules are configured for this channel
  • Compliance rate — The percentage of products passing all rules for this channel
  • Products covered — How many products are affected by these channel-specific rules
  • Status — Whether the channel rule set is active or inactive
Channels are split into two sections:
  • Active Channels — Channels with configured and active rules
  • Unconfigured Channels — Channels that have been connected but do not yet have quality rules

Setting Up Channel Rules

1

Identify your channel

On the Channel Rules page, find the channel you want to configure. If it appears under “Unconfigured Channels,” click Add Rules to get started.
2

Create channel-scoped rules

When creating a new rule, set the Scope to the specific channel. This ensures the rule only applies when exporting to that platform.
3

Use templates

For popular channels, WISEPIM offers pre-built rule templates that cover common platform requirements. Browse templates from the Quality Guard dashboard and apply them with one click.
4

Review compliance

After setting up rules, return to the Channel Rules page to see the compliance rate for each channel. This tells you how many of your products are ready for that platform.
Start with the channel that drives the most revenue. Getting that channel to a high compliance rate will have the biggest impact on your business.

Compliance Rate

Each channel card displays a compliance rate — the percentage of covered products that pass all of that channel’s rules. The progress bar is color-coded:
  • Green (80%+) — Most products are export-ready for this channel.
  • Yellow (60—79%) — A notable portion of products need attention.
  • Red (below 60%) — Significant data quality issues exist for this channel.
A low compliance rate for a channel with blocking rules means many products will be quarantined when you attempt an export. Review and fix issues before running your next export to avoid delays.

Viewing Channel-Specific Rules

Click View Rules on any active channel card to see only the rules that apply to that channel. This filters the main rules list so you can focus on what matters for a specific platform without the noise of unrelated rules.

Common Channel Requirements

Here are typical requirements for popular platforms that you can enforce with channel rules:

Google Shopping

  • GTIN/EAN is not empty and matches a 13-digit format
  • Product Name is not empty and is under 150 characters
  • At least 1 product image
  • Brand is not empty
  • Price is greater than 0

Amazon

  • Product Name is between 50 and 200 characters
  • Description is at least 200 characters long
  • At least 3 product images
  • EAN/GTIN is not empty
  • Product is assigned to at least one category

Shopify

  • Meta Title is between 30 and 60 characters
  • Meta Description is between 120 and 160 characters
  • At least 1 main image
  • Price is not empty and greater than 0
These are starting points. Every business has unique requirements. Customize your channel rules to match your specific product data standards and platform configurations.

Best Practices

  • One rule set per channel — Keep channel-specific requirements separate from your general rules for clarity.
  • Monitor compliance trends — Check your channel compliance rates regularly, especially before major export runs.
  • Start with templates — Pre-built templates cover the most common platform requirements and save you setup time.
  • Test before blocking — Use Warn severity first to see how many products would be affected, then upgrade to Block once your data is in good shape.
  • Keep rules current — Sales platforms update their requirements periodically. Review your channel rules when you notice export rejections.
