Category variables let you define a set of fields and fill in different values per category. Each product automatically gets the content matching its primary category. Same schema, different values per category. Set them up on the Categories tab in Settings > Content Logic.

How to use them

  1. Define a schema — Create fields (e.g., material, care_instructions) with a key, label, and type (text, long text, or URL).
  2. Fill in values per category — Select each category and enter its specific values.
  3. Reference in content — Use {{category.your_key}} in any formula-enabled field. Each product resolves to its primary category’s value.

3. Care and maintenance instructions

Every product category has different care requirements.

Tips

  • Category variables are resolved using the product’s primary category. Make sure your products have a primary category set — use Set Primary Category to assign them in bulk.
  • Combine category variables with brand variables for multi-layered content — e.g., {{category.short_intro}} {{brand.tagline}}.
  • The progress indicator (“3/5 filled”) helps you track which categories still need values entered.
