# FAQ Settings

> Choose how product and category FAQs combine, which channels get them and in what format, how the storefront block looks, and when AI FAQs go live.

![WISEPIM FAQ settings with Category FAQs and Export sections on the left and a live preview of the storefront FAQ block on the right](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/ZhFouQkYEPBbUtsa/images/marketing-screenshots/settings/settings-faqs-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ZhFouQkYEPBbUtsa\&q=85\&s=5700bcfd3f2a3982bef621dc93765ae7)

The FAQs settings page decides what happens to your [product FAQs](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/ai/product-faqs.md) after you write them: how category questions are mixed in, what each channel receives on export, how the block looks on your storefront, and whether AI-written questions wait for your review.

**What this page enables:** you set up FAQs once for the whole project, so every product exports a consistent, schema-marked FAQ block to the channels that accept it, and no channel gets FAQ text it would reject.

**Where to find it:** go to **Settings** and open **FAQs** in the AI & Content group. The settings apply to the selected project.

## Category FAQs

Categories can add their FAQs to every product filed directly under them. Two settings control this:

| Setting | What it does | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Stop adding category FAQs once a product has enough of its own** | When on, set **Stop adding category FAQs at** a number of own questions, from 1 to 50. Products at or above it get no category FAQs. | Off |
| **New categories add their FAQs to products** | Whether a new category starts with its FAQs switched on. You can still switch it off per category. | On |

A single product can override the limit, or switch category questions off entirely, in its **FAQs** tab.

## Export

FAQs are appended to the end of the exported description.

**Append FAQs to exported descriptions** is on by default, so your FAQs reach every shop without extra mapping. Re-exporting never adds them twice: WISEPIM replaces the old block each time, and strips it again when you re-import the product.

### Per channel

Each channel starts from the format it renders best. Pick **FAQ format for** a channel to override it: **Default**, **HTML**, **Plain text** or **Off**. The default shows in brackets, for example **Default (HTML)**, with a one-line reason below the channel name.

| Default | Channels |
| - | - |
| HTML | Shopify, WooCommerce (API and CSV), Magento 2, Lightspeed, CCV Shop, BigCommerce, Ecwid, PrestaShop, Shopware, ShopWired, Squarespace, Sylius, Oscar, CSV and Excel file exports, Channable and custom feeds |
| Plain text | Medusa, Kaufland, ChatGPT Shopping, Copilot, Perplexity and affiliate feeds |
| Off | Google Merchant Center ("Not sent: Google rejects FAQ text in descriptions"), Akeneo, Mirakl, bol, Amazon, shopping-ad feeds for Google, Microsoft, Meta, Pinterest and TikTok, beslist, idealo and BMEcat |

When a channel has a length limit on descriptions, WISEPIM drops whole questions from the end of the block to fit. It never cuts an answer in half.

### Structured data

Three platforms can also receive the FAQs as clean data, so themes, apps and AI assistants can read them. All three are on by default:

| Channel | Option |
| - | - |
| Shopify | **Also send as metafields (wisepim.faqs)** |
| WooCommerce | **Also send as product meta (wisepim\_faqs)** |
| Magento 2 | **Also send to the attribute wisepim\_faqs** |

> [!WARNING]
>
> For Magento 2, the attribute `wisepim_faqs` must exist in your store. If it doesn't, the structured data is skipped and the export run shows a warning.

> [!NOTE]
>
> WISEPIM also sends FAQPage schema. Google shows FAQ rich results only for a few authoritative sites, so don't expect them in search results. AI assistants and your theme still benefit.

### Use it in your theme

The **Use it in your theme** section gives ready-made code to print the FAQPage schema from the structured data: **Shopify: product template (Liquid)** and **WooCommerce: functions.php or a code snippets plugin (PHP)**. Click **Copy** and paste the code where your product template renders.

If you print this JSON-LD yourself, turn off **Add FAQ schema markup** under Layout and style, so the page doesn't carry two FAQPage entities. The **Turn off schema markup** button does that for you.

## Layout and style

These settings shape the HTML block inside your product descriptions. **Use recommended** resets them.

| Setting | Options | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Layout** | **Accordion** (questions open in place, no scripts needed), **Definition list** (every answer visible), **Headings** (each question is a heading) | Accordion |
| **Show a section heading** | On or off. Set a **Heading** per language; leave one empty for the built-in "Frequently asked questions". | On |
| **Heading level** | H2 to H4 | H2 |
| **Question level** | H3 to H5. One level below the section heading keeps the page outline valid. | H3 |
| **Open the first question** | Accordion only | |
| **Keep one question open at a time** | Accordion only | |
| **Add FAQ schema markup** | Adds FAQPage markup that stays invisible to shoppers | On |
| **Style** | **Use my theme** (no inline styles) or **Styled**, which adds **Question color**, **Border color**, **Background color** and **Corner radius** (0 to 24) | Use my theme |
| **CSS class** | Up to five class names so your theme can target the block | `wpim-faq` |
| **Limit the number of questions** | When on, set **Questions to show**, from 1 to 50 | Off |

## Generation

These settings decide what happens when WISEPIM AI writes FAQs for your products.

### When suggestions are ready

This is the project default. You can pick another option for each run in the Enrich dialog.

| Option | What happens |
| - | - |
| **Review every suggestion** | Nothing reaches a product until you accept it in its FAQ tab. |
| **Add the safe ones automatically** | Suggestions that pass your rules go live right away. The rest wait for you. |
| **Add everything automatically** | Every suggestion is saved as soon as it's ready. You can undo a whole run from its task page. |

### What counts as safe

A suggestion is added automatically only when it passes every rule:

* **Adds to the list, never replaces it** (always on). Runs that replace a product's FAQs always wait for you.
* **Isn't a duplicate** (always on). It doesn't repeat a question the product already shows, its own or from a category.
* **Cites its sources** (on by default). Every answer added without review points to product data or research.
* **Stop once a product has enough questions of its own** (off by default). When on, set **Stop adding at** a number of own questions per product. Off means only the 50-question limit applies.

Anything held waits in the product's FAQ tab with the reason, so you only review what needs it.

## Live preview

The **Live preview** panel updates as you change settings:

* **Preview as**: **Your storefront**, or one of your channels.
* **Preview language**: see the heading and questions in another language.
* **Preview with a product**: search by name or SKU to use a real product's FAQs instead of sample questions.

When you preview a channel, **What the channel receives** has two tabs: **Description** shows the block or plain text that channel gets, and **Structured data** shows the JSON, with **Copy JSON**. If a channel gets nothing, the preview says "Not sent to" that channel and why.

When you save your changes, you see "FAQ settings saved".

## Act on what you find

> **FAQs show up twice on your Shopify product page**
>
> Your theme probably prints the `wisepim.faqs` metafield and the description also carries the block. Either set Shopify to **Off** under Per channel and render from the metafield, or untick **Also send as metafields (wisepim.faqs)**.

> **Google Merchant Center rejected descriptions**
>
> Keep Google Merchant Center on its default, **Off**. Google rejects FAQ text in descriptions.

> **The block looks unstyled in your theme**
>
> Switch **Style** to **Styled** and pick colors, or keep **Use my theme** and target the `wpim-faq` class in your theme's CSS.

> **Well-documented products get too many questions**
>
> Turn on **Stop adding category FAQs once a product has enough of its own**, or set **Limit the number of questions** to cap what shoppers see.

> **You review hundreds of AI suggestions after every run**
>
> Set **When suggestions are ready** to **Add the safe ones automatically**. You then only review what a rule held back.
