# Catalog Structure

> See how families, categories, fields and variant groups fit together, get free setup suggestions from your own products, and undo structure changes.

![WISEPIM Catalog structure overview with a Get setup suggestions button, a Start here card about variant groups that need options, and cards for product families, categories, product fields and variant groups](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY/images/marketing-screenshots/catalog-jobs/catalog-structure-home-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY\&q=85\&s=038af5c3082fd65afbc3d95d0a59e7bb)

Catalog structure is the workspace for the shape of your catalog: which [product families](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/products/product-families.md) you have, which [categories](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/other-features/managing-categories.md) products sit in, which [fields](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/other-features/managing-attributes.md) they store, and which products are variants of one another. It shows where the gaps are, suggests a setup based on your own products, and keeps a history of every structure change so you can undo it.

**What this page enables:** you can spot products without a family or category in seconds, let WISEPIM propose families, fields, categories and variant groups for a group of products, apply only the changes you want, and take them back later.

**Where to find it:** in the Experimental interface, choose **Catalog** > **Catalog setup** > **Catalog structure**. In the Stable interface, open **Settings** > **Attribute scope**: it has the same tabs. You can also open the command menu (Ctrl/⌘ K) and type **Catalog structure**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The **Catalog structure** menu branch only shows in the Experimental interface. Switch under **Interface version** in [Appearance Settings](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/settings/appearance.md), or from the command menu with **Switch to Experimental**. The setting is saved per browser. In the Experimental menu, the branch holds **Product Categories**, **Product families**, **Product fields** and **Option sets**; use **Show catalog structure pages** to expand it.

The workspace has four tabs:

| Tab | What it is for |
| - | - |
| **Overview** | Gaps in your structure and a card for each part of it. |
| **Guided setup** | The wizard that suggests a structure from products you select. |
| **Change history** | Every recorded structure change, with undo. |
| **Settings** | Where product attributes come from. See [Attribute Scope Settings](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/settings/catalog-structure.md). |

## Overview

The top of the page has **Get setup suggestions**, which opens [Guided setup](#guided-setup).

### Start here

WISEPIM checks your saved structure and puts the most useful next step on top. Depending on what it finds, you see:

| Finding | Button |
| - | - |
| Variant groups that need size, color or other options | **Choose variant options** |
| Products with no family | **How to assign a family** |
| Products with no category | **Open categories** |

More findings sit under **Other things to check**, such as empty families, unused fields or categories without a default family. When nothing is missing, the card says **Next, check your sales channels**.

### Manage your setup

Four cards link to each part of your structure, each with its count and its gaps:

| Card | Shows | Link |
| - | - | - |
| **Product families** | Products without a family, families with no products | **Edit product families** |
| **Categories** | Products without a category, categories with no default family | **Edit categories** |
| **Product fields** | Fields with no values or setup links | **Edit product fields** |
| **Variant groups** | Groups missing variant options | **Set up variant groups** |

**Your saved catalog** shows how many products the project has and what **Fields defined by** is set to: **Families**, **Categories** or **Families and categories**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> These counts describe your saved structure. They don't measure whether a channel accepts your products or how complete the product data is. For that, use [Quality Guard](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/quality-guard/overview.md).

## Guided setup

Guided setup looks at a group of products you pick and suggests families, fields, categories and variant groups for them. It runs on fixed rules, not AI, so it is free. The page says **No credits needed**.

**1. Choose products**

![WISEPIM guided setup step Choose products with a product search, an Only products without a family filter and a selectable product list](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY/images/marketing-screenshots/catalog-jobs/structure-wizard-scope-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY\&q=85\&s=6bea246f245bf7f873bc840e3e801b38)

Search with **Find products by SKU or name** and tick the products you want to organize. **Only products without a family** narrows the list. **Select visible page** ticks the 50 products on the page. Your selection stays when you search or change pages; check it under **Review selected products**.

Open **Customize suggestions** to choose:

* **What should we look at?**: **Product families**, **Product fields**, **Categories** and **Variant groups**.
* **Use an industry guide** (Fashion, Beauty, Electronics, Furniture, Hardware or Food) or **Choose automatically from my products**.
* **Prepare reusable setup without selecting products**, to build families and fields without assigning or grouping anything.

Click **Find suggestions**.

**2. Review suggestions**

![WISEPIM guided setup step Review suggestions with selected product and suggestion counts and a Product families section suggesting a new Apparel family](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY/images/marketing-screenshots/catalog-jobs/structure-wizard-review-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY\&q=85\&s=de9f3b127d77e3ff4d8d54db972f6bf9)

Suggestions are grouped into **Product families**, **Product fields**, **Categories** and **Variant groups**. Tick the ones you want, or use **Select all available suggestions** per section. Each suggestion has a label that says what it does, such as **Create family**, **Reuse attribute**, **Add option values**, **Assign product family** or **Create variant group**.

Open a suggestion to see **Evidence confidence** and the details. Under **Advanced: adjust suggestion** you can change the name, the parent SKU of a variant group, the field type, the allowed values or the variant options, or reuse an existing family or category.

Suggestions that need you first are listed under **Needs your attention**, with the reason. For example, two products have the same variant options, or some products are already listed on a sales channel.

Click **Review changes** when you're done. **Reset my choices** starts over; **Check again, keep my choices** refreshes the suggestions after your catalog changed.

**3. Confirm changes**

![WISEPIM guided setup step Confirm changes listing a new Apparel family and a family assignment for two products, with an Apply these changes button](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY/images/marketing-screenshots/catalog-jobs/structure-wizard-confirm-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY\&q=85\&s=80aa43ba95e17a1046cfb8b394f1036d)

You see exactly what will change: how many records are created, reused or updated, how many links are added, and how many products and variant groups are affected. **See all included changes** lists everything, including setup your choices need. "Your existing values, cleared fields and translations are kept."

The preview is valid until the date shown under **Available until**. Click **Apply these changes**, then confirm **Make these changes?**. If anything changed in the meantime, nothing is applied and you are asked to review again. **Edit choices** takes you back.

**4. Done**

WISEPIM confirms "The reviewed changes were applied." Under **More things you can do** you can **View products**, **Check channel requirements** or **Review missing fields**.

Changed your mind? **Check undo options** shows what can still be undone, and **Undo eligible changes** restores it. Undo works while the saved changes are unchanged and still kept; later edits or published variant groups can block it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You can select up to 500 products per guided setup. It uses no credits.

Guided setup never deletes anything. It doesn't create missing variant products either: it only groups the products you already have.

### From onboarding

![WISEPIM guided setup opened from onboarding, with a Back link and the Choose products step](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/aNPvWPdGvNzu2lNs/images/marketing-screenshots/onboarding/structure-wizard-onboarding-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=aNPvWPdGvNzu2lNs\&q=85\&s=7688cc7fb7737c30495942868a6666b9)

When your first onboarding fix changed products, the onboarding result page offers a card **Organize your products**: "Choose a few products, review the suggestions and apply only the changes you want." Click **Choose products** to open the same guided setup, with a **Back** link instead of the workspace tabs. It doesn't affect whether onboarding counts as complete.

## Change history

![WISEPIM Change history with an applied structure change, its recorded before and after state for the Size attribute, the undo deadline and an Undo this change button](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY/images/marketing-screenshots/catalog-jobs/catalog-structure-history-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY\&q=85\&s=3829765443bb4978972843d396faf39c)

**Change history** lists every recorded change to your families, categories and attributes: "See what changed and check whether it can be undone. Later edits are kept." Click **Refresh history** for the latest, and **Newer changes** or **Older changes** to page through.

Each entry shows when it happened, how many structure changes it holds and where it came from: **Manual edit**, **Guided setup**, **Catalog structure** or **Other source**. Its status is **Applied**, **Restored** or **Partially restored**.

Click **Show details** to see the recorded before and after state of each change, for example "Required: No" before and "Yes" after, and how many products it affected.

### Undo a change

**1. Open the details**

Click **Show details** on the entry. The line **Undo available until** shows the deadline.

**2. Undo**

Click **Undo this change**, then confirm **Undo this structure change?**.

**3. Check the outcome**

WISEPIM checks the current values again before restoring. Newer edits are kept and reported as conflicts, so the result can be a partial restore.

Undo is refused when, for example, the undo window has expired, a product was edited after the change, the object no longer exists, or other records now depend on an object the change created.

## Family runs

![WISEPIM Change history for one run with an Undo recorded changes from this run card, the undo deadline, the plan's retention period and an Undo this run button](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY/images/marketing-screenshots/catalog-jobs/catalog-structure-family-run-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=S-ZB-hYvRnPueaxY\&q=85\&s=9fe8380ca405f4521648ebaf458cbc31)

When you assign a family to many products at once, through **Bulk edit** > **Assign product family** on the Products page or **Assign family to these products** under category default families in [Attribute Scope Settings](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/settings/catalog-structure.md), the work is recorded as one run. The result message links to it with **Review change history**.

The run view opens on **Undo recorded changes from this run**. Click **Undo this run** to take back the whole assignment.

> [!WARNING]
>
> "Only recorded catalog changes can be restored. This does not reverse exports or changes already sent to a shop."

## How long undo is available

Undo is available on every plan. How long depends on your plan: from 1 day on the free plan up to 90 days on Enterprise. The run view says it exactly, for example "Undo history is kept for 30 days on your plan.", and every entry shows its own **Undo available until** date. Expired history is cleaned up automatically.

## Act on what you find

> **Many products have no family**
>
> If your shop works mainly with categories, you may not need families: set **Use attributes from** to **Categories** in [Attribute Scope Settings](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/settings/catalog-structure.md). Otherwise run **Guided setup** with **Only products without a family** ticked, or select products and use **Bulk edit** > **Assign product family**.

> **Variant groups need options**
>
> Click **Choose variant options** on the Start here card, or open a parent product and set its options on the **Relations** tab. See [Product Variants](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/products/product-variants.md).

> **A guided setup made a mess**
>
> Go to **Change history**, open the entry from **Guided setup** and undo it. Changes you made by hand afterwards are kept.
