# Product FAQs

> Add buyer questions and answers to products, reuse category FAQs, generate them with AI in bulk, review suggestions and undo a whole run.

![FAQs tab of a product in WISEPIM with six questions, type and AI chips per question, a coverage strip and the From categories section](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/jl7-7OUIcGOW7dTY/images/marketing-screenshots/products/product-faqs-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jl7-7OUIcGOW7dTY\&q=85\&s=0dc33e6b45117e2d302c96551a4132b2)

Product FAQs are the questions shoppers ask before they buy, answered on the product itself. Each product has its own ordered list of questions and answers. Categories can hold a list too, which WISEPIM adds after the product's own questions. On export, the FAQs are appended to the product description as a styled block, and on some channels also sent as structured data.

**What this page enables:** you can write FAQs by hand, let WISEPIM AI write them from your product data for one product or hundreds at once, decide which AI suggestions go live without review, and roll back a whole run if you don't like the result.

**Where to find it:** open a product and click the **FAQs** tab. For bulk generation, select products in **All Products** and click **Enrich with AI**. Export and layout options live under [FAQ Settings](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/settings/faqs.md).

## What a product FAQ is

Every FAQ item is one question and one answer:

| Part | Limit |
| - | - |
| Question | Plain text, up to 300 characters |
| Answer | Up to 5,000 characters, with basic formatting: paragraphs, line breaks, bold, italic, underline, links and lists |
| Items per product | 50 |
| Items per category | 50 |

Each item can carry a question type, such as **Specifications**, **Compatibility** or **Care and cleaning**. Types drive the coverage strip in the editor and the angles AI writes about.

WISEPIM also remembers where each item came from: typed by you, written by AI (shown with an **AI** chip), imported from a product page, or added by a category.

## The FAQs tab in the product editor

The **FAQs** tab sits between **Categories** and **Relations**. When AI suggestions are waiting, the tab shows a badge such as "3 suggestions to review".

### Your questions

The **Your questions** list shows the product's own items with a count. Each row has a drag handle, its type chip, an **AI** chip when AI wrote it, and buttons to **Move question up**, **Move question down** and **Remove question**. Click **Edit question** to open a row and change the **Question** and **Answer** fields.

Click **Add a question** to add a row. At 50 items you see "You've reached the limit of 50 questions."

WISEPIM gives light hints while you write:

* "Same question as question 2" when two questions repeat each other.
* "No answer yet, so shoppers would see the question on its own."
* "Short answers can feel thin. Add one detail shoppers can act on."
* "Questions read best when they end with a question mark."

> [!NOTE]
>
> FAQ edits are part of the product form. Nothing is saved until you save the product.

### Coverage

Below the header, the coverage strip shows which question types the product already answers (**Covers:**) and which recommended types are still missing (**Not yet:**). Click a missing type to **Generate questions about** that type, or click **Generate these** to write all missing types in one go.

### Generate FAQs for one product

**1. Open the generator**

In the FAQs tab, click **Enrich with AI**. The **Enrich FAQs** dialog opens.

**2. Pick the options**

Choose a prompt, the number of questions, the question types and whether to use web research. These are the same options as in a bulk run, described below.

**3. Generate**

Click **Generate FAQs**. The toast "Generating FAQs" tells you where the questions will land, based on your apply mode.

Click **Tune the FAQ prompt** next to the button to open the same product in Prompt Lab with the FAQ mode selected.

If the product data can't support any new question, you see "No new questions: the product data didn't support these angles", with buttons to **Open Research** and **Open Attributes**. WISEPIM only writes answers your data supports, so add facts and generate again. If the AI service fails, you see "We couldn't generate FAQs" and your credit is refunded.

### Review suggestions

Generated questions that are not added automatically appear in **Suggested questions** at the top of the tab, each with an **AI suggestion** chip and a "Based on:" line naming the sources it used.

* **Accept** adds the suggestion to your list. **Edit** lets you change it first, then **Accept edited**.
* **Dismiss** drops it.
* **Accept all** adds every suggestion that isn't already in your list. **Dismiss all** clears the tray.

Suggestions that a safe run held back carry a reason chip: **Possible duplicate**, **No sources cited**, **Replaces your list**, **Over your limit** or **Needs a look**. Types the AI skipped are listed as "Skipped:" with "not enough data".

### Questions from categories

The **From categories** section controls category FAQs for this product:

* **Category questions**: switch **Add questions from this product's categories** on or off.
* **Stop adding category FAQs at** a number of own questions. Leave it empty to follow the project setting, shown as **Inherited**.

A status line tells you what happens, for example "3 category questions are added after yours." The read-only **Category questions** list shows each inherited item with its category. Items that are not shown sit under **Not shown**, with a reason: "Same as your question 2", "You have enough" or "Category FAQs off".

Only categories the product is directly in count. Subcategories don't pass their FAQs down, and the primary category goes first.

### Shopper view

![Shopper view of the FAQs tab showing the storefront FAQ block with a Frequently asked questions heading, accordion questions and a FAQ schema badge](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/jKFBWM6Z7ItLdK2p/images/marketing-screenshots/products/product-faqs-shopper-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jKFBWM6Z7ItLdK2p\&q=85\&s=30ed493f4386847676a9e9efa078f09c)

Switch **FAQ view** from **Edit** to **Shopper view** to see the block the way your storefront renders it, including category questions. The header shows the question count, the language and a **FAQ schema** badge when schema markup is on.

* **Preview** shows the rendered block. **Storefront HTML** shows the code, with **Copy HTML**.
* Toggle **Desktop width** and **Mobile width**, and switch between a light and dark storefront.

Below the preview, "Where these FAQs go on export:" lists each connected channel and what it receives, such as a block, a metafield, product meta, an attribute, or "not sent". The **FAQ settings** link takes you to the export options.

### Translations

Switch the editor language to translate. The tab shows "Translation: German" (or the language you picked) with **Question (German)** and **Answer (German)** fields per item. You add, remove and reorder questions in the source language only. Click **Translate missing with AI** to fill the gaps. Until a question is translated, shoppers see the original.

### Read-only roles

If your role can't edit FAQs, the tab shows "Your role can't edit FAQs, so they're read-only here."

## Generate FAQs in bulk

**1. Select products**

In **All Products**, select the products you want. FAQ generation needs an explicit selection: with "all matching products" you see "FAQ generation runs on selected products. Select products on this page instead of all matching products."

**2. Choose the FAQs action**

Click **Enrich with AI**. Under **Step 1 · Choose an action**, open **Product content** and pick **FAQs** ("Write buyer questions and answers from your product data").

**3. Configure the run**

Under **Step 2 · Configure**, set the options below.

**4. Start**

Click **Generate FAQs**. You see "FAQ generation started" with a **View run** link to the task in the Process Tracker.

### Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Prompt** | **Built-in FAQ prompt**, or a saved FAQ prompt from Prompt Lab. A saved prompt fills in its own types, question count and research setting. | Built-in FAQ prompt |
| **Questions per product** | How many questions to write, from 1 to 20. A run can return fewer: WISEPIM skips an angle rather than guess. | 6 |
| **What should the FAQs cover?** | The question types to write about. See below. | Recommended for your industry |
| **Use web research** | Grounds answers in the product's latest web research. Products without research use catalog data only. | On |
| **Skip questions your category FAQs already answer** | Keeps product and category FAQs from repeating each other. | On |
| **Existing FAQs** | **Add to existing FAQs** keeps what's there and skips repeats. **Replace existing FAQs** swaps each product's list, and translations of removed questions go too. | Add to existing FAQs |
| **When suggestions are ready** | The apply mode for this run. See [Apply modes](#apply-modes). | Your project setting |

In a combined Enrich workflow, FAQs run after research and before translation, so new questions are translated in the same run.

### Question types by industry

The type picker groups types in three blocks:

* **Recommended for** your industry, preselected.
* **Universal**: **How to use**, **Specifications**, **Compatibility**, **Materials**, **Care and cleaning**, **What's in the box**, **Warranty**, **Safety**, **Comparison** and **Sustainability**.
* **More for other industries**: types such as **Sizing and fit**, **Battery and power**, **Ingredients**, **Allergens**, **Assembly** and **Vehicle fit**.

Use **Select all** to tick everything, or **Reset to recommended** to go back to the preselection.

The industry comes from the product's category when that category (or the nearest parent with one) has its own industry, and from your project otherwise. The customer types in your business profile also count: selling to professional buyers adds questions about pack quantity, for example.

### How the Knowledge Library steers questions

When your project has a [Knowledge Library](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/other-features/knowledge-library.md), the generator reads it as background: your brand, audience, purchase criteria and what holds buyers back. That shapes which questions get asked and the words they use. It is never cited as a source, so no answer rests on it. Answers come from product data and web research only.

### Credits

| Action | Cost |
| - | - |
| Generate FAQs, one product or bulk | 1 credit per product, charged when the run starts |
| AI service fails or returns an unusable reply | Credit refunded |
| No question could be grounded in the data | Not refunded |
| Translate missing with AI | Same as a product translation per language |

Large runs ask "Start this run?" with the credit total first. If your balance can't cover the whole run, you see "Not enough credits for the whole run" and can still **Run anyway**.

## Apply modes

The apply mode decides what happens when generated questions are ready. Your project default lives in [FAQ Settings](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/settings/faqs.md); you can pick another one per run under **When suggestions are ready**.

| Mode | What happens |
| - | - |
| **Review every suggestion** | Every suggestion waits in the product's FAQ tab until you accept it. |
| **Add the safe ones automatically** | Suggestions that pass your safety rules go live. The rest wait in the FAQ tab with the reason. |
| **Add everything automatically** | Every suggestion is saved right away. |

Runs on more than 20 products start on **Add the safe ones automatically**, so nobody has to review hundreds of products one by one. If your project already adds everything, the run keeps that.

A suggestion counts as safe only when it passes every rule, checked in this order:

1. It adds to the list and never replaces it. Runs set to **Replace existing FAQs** always wait for review.
2. It isn't a duplicate of a question the product already shows, its own or from a category.
3. It cites its sources, when that rule is on.
4. It stays within the 50-item limit, and your own-question limit when you set one.

![Process Tracker task of a bulk FAQ run with the What this FAQ run did card: 41 of 48 products updated, 212 questions added, 23 held for review and an Undo this run button](https://mintcdn.com/swiftsyncai/jl7-7OUIcGOW7dTY/images/marketing-screenshots/products/product-faqs-bulk-run-light-branded.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jl7-7OUIcGOW7dTY\&q=85\&s=4c2365ccda721853fd5fca8cb2bc1bb5)

### Read the run summary

Open the run from **View run** or the Process Tracker. The **What this FAQ run did** card shows:

* **Products updated**, for example "41 of 48".
* **Questions added**.
* **Held for review**, with "Held because:" chips such as **Possible duplicate**, **No sources cited**, **Replaces the list**, **Over the limit** and **Needs a look**.

Click **Review held suggestions** to open the products that still have suggestions waiting.

### Undo a whole run

Click **Undo this run**, then **Undo run** in the "Undo this FAQ run?" dialog. WISEPIM restores the FAQs each product had before the run. There is no time window. Products you edited since the run are left alone, and the card tells you how many: "2 were edited since the run, so we left them alone."

## Where FAQs come from

| Source | How it gets there |
| - | - |
| You | Typed in the FAQs tab. |
| AI generation | From the FAQs tab, a bulk Enrich run, Prompt Lab, or the FAQ step in a workflow. |
| Categories | Added after the product's own items for products directly in a category that shares its FAQs. |
| Page imports | Importing a product page, for example with the browser extension, picks up the page's FAQ section as product FAQs. |

Page imports read FAQPage structured data, FAQ microdata, or a visible FAQ section in English, Dutch, German, French or Spanish. They take up to 50 items, skip questions the product already has on re-import, and remove the FAQ block from the imported description.

### Category FAQs

Open a category to edit its **FAQs** group. Its switch reads **Added to products in this category** or **Not added to products**. New categories start from your project setting "New categories add their FAQs to products".

A product shows its own questions first, then category questions, primary category first. Category items are dropped when:

* the product's **Category questions** switch is off,
* the product has reached the own-question limit, or
* the question repeats one already shown.

## Filter and sort by FAQs

| Where | Name | What it shows |
| - | - | - |
| Column | **FAQs** | The product's own question count, **From categories** when only a category adds questions, or **None**. |
| Filter | **FAQ Count** | Number of the product's own questions. Category questions are not counted. |
| Filter | **Has FAQs** | Own questions, or questions from a category the product is directly in. |
| Preset | **No FAQs** | Products where shoppers see no questions, not even from a category. |

## Act on what you find

> **The AI wrote fewer questions than you asked for**
>
> WISEPIM skips a type when your data doesn't support it. Check the "Skipped:" line in the suggestions tray, add the missing facts in **Attributes**, or run web research, then generate again.

> **Many suggestions were held as Possible duplicate**
>
> The product or its categories already answer those questions. Turn on **Skip questions your category FAQs already answer** for the next run, or remove overlapping category questions.

> **Many suggestions were held as No sources cited**
>
> The AI had little to ground its answers in. Run web research on those products first, or switch off **Cites its sources** in [FAQ Settings](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/settings/faqs.md) if you are happy to review them later.

> **A bulk run produced questions you don't want**
>
> Open the run in the Process Tracker and click **Undo this run**. Products you edited since are kept as they are.

> **The same care or warranty question repeats on every product**
>
> Move it to the category once and delete the copies from the products. Every product directly in that category then gets it after its own questions.

> **Questions are generic for your trade**
>
> Fill in your [Knowledge Library](https://docs.wisepim.com/en/other-features/knowledge-library.md) with your audience and the doubts buyers have, or save your own FAQ prompt in Prompt Lab and pick it under **Prompt**.
